File in "You've Got To Be Kidding"

"Less trash means less money for sanitation workers "

Headline taken from KSL.com on December 29th, 2008. This small article just goes to show that you can never please everyone all of the time. Finally, we are producing less trash, but because the sanitation workers get paid by the pound and number of houses, their pay is a little less each week. Come on people make more garbage!

Now, if I am not mistaken, as a country, we are trying to find ways to produce less waste. Do you see something wrong here? Or, am I out in left field?

My question for the waste management companies that are paying in this way, does their business model allow them to exist if there is groundbreaking technology that allows consumers to purchase and use products where there is very little waste. For example, if we were able to reduce the amount of waste by 50%, would the waste management companies be able to operate. Or, will the government come in and legislate that we need to use x-amount of waste products to allow these companies to continue to work and charge for this service?

Just a thought.

Troubling Thoughts

For about two months, I have been troubled by the bailout of the "Wall Street powerhouses" by the american people. At the time, I was of the opinion (and vocal to all two of my friends) that all this was going to do was prolong the inevitable.

What do I mean by this? There needs to be an adjustment in the economy. Simply put, the majority of homes are priced way too high. The banks and the economy need to have this adjustment and can't get bailed out for fictitious values on most homes.

Now, what do I read this morning? Goldman Sachs is using some of our bailout money to provide bonuses to their employees. From the world that I come from, if a business is not doing well, employees don't get a bonus. And, certainly not the upper management. They should be ashamed of themselves!

I have news for you. With the help of the government, the next few months will hurt just as much as if the banks were left to fend for themselves. I would almost be willing to lay a wager down that people would be back on their feet quicker if the banks were left on their own and the government stayed out of the situation.

There are going to be entity fatalities, there already are across the nation. However, now what we are seeing is the huge fleecing of the american people by large corporations which will shut their doors as soon as they milk the government for every last drop they can get. And, then goodbye! Where are we then?

All I would do is ask you to send a note to your local leaders, your senators, your representatives and to the president. The worst thing that we can do is remain quiet. The last that I heard is that the government is for the people and by the people (paraphrasing of course.) We need to hold true to this thought and move forward to make a better America.
